Low cost store on board GPS collar: the solution for wildlife researchers who don’t need remote download of fix data, but want to download the position data at the computer after retrieval of the unit. The collars are suitable to track herbivores as well as predators - wildlife as well as livestock.
The big advantage: The collar price starts from 1250 Euro net, with 1D battery. Please ask for prices of collars with more batteries. Since store-on-board collars are less complex as GPS collars with remote download possibility like GPS GSM collar or collars with remote UHF download, they require less software as well as hardware resulting in a lower price. Store on board collars just take the position and store the data in a memory on board.

* The calculation of the number of positions a collar can take, are based upon the assumption that the time required for the GPS unit to fix position is 45 seconds (best field calculation), 90 seconds (average calculation), 180 seconds (worst case) and no obstacles in the reception path of the GPS reciever (open land calculation). The estimates are based on battery performance at average temperature of 0° C.
